BEHIND OUR NAME

A life is more
than a name.

Ansari and Obaid are two different people, each held in loving memory. The Foundation honours them individually while bringing people together around a common purpose: helping others with compassion and dignity.

Passed away

Kojamudaliyar Segmadar Mohamed Ansari, affectionately known in many communities as “Ansari Master,” was born on 20th January 1932 in Balangoda. He was the third son of Kojamudaliyar Meeralebbe Segmadar and M. L. M. Marikkar Abeera Beebi. His family heritage brought together two prominent lineages: the Kojamudaliyar family, associated with the personal physician to the last king of the Senkadagala Kingdom, and the family of M. L. M. Marikkar, a tea plantation owner from Balangoda.
Yet those who knew him remember him not for his family’s wealth or standing, but for his humility, generosity and kindness. He married S. J. Beebi in Boragas, where they made their home and where he took an active part in community life. He was a loving husband and father to Aroos Ansari, Arasoon Ansari and Aras Ansari.
Ansari Master had many gifted talents, He was known as a musician, singer and expert in Kalari martial arts. He was also a leader who gave his time freely to others. After retiring, he spent more than a decade teaching Islamic studies and the Qur’an to children, continuing this work until he moved back to Balangoda. His kindness reached across communities, and he was loved by Sinhalese, Muslim and Tamil families alike.
He passed away in Balangoda on 1st October 2006. As we mark the twentieth anniversary of his passing in 2026, we are establishing a foundation in his name to carry forward the values by which he lived. Through support for people in need, Islamic education and general education, we hope to honor his memory in a way that would have mattered to him: by helping others.

FROM REMEMBRANCE TO SERVICE

The good we do
can carry love forward.

In Islamic tradition, sadaqah is an act of voluntary giving. It reminds us that kindness can take practical form: sharing knowledge, easing hardship and making room for someone else’s future.

That spirit guides our four priorities: Islamic scholarship, A/L-to-university opportunities for students of every faith, recovery after natural disasters, and help with essential treatment and surgery. We invite you to be part of this continuing intention.

A SHARED INTENTION

Remembered with love.
Honoured through giving.

Join us in shaping a legacy that reaches beyond remembrance.
